The Road to Hell is Paved
curated by Biddy Tran

The practices and policies of rich and powerful nation-states continue to invade and erode "alternative" cultures behind the shroud of democracy and “good intention,” leaving in their wake confusion, cultures stripped of dignity and cultural bearing, and ultimately, masses of individuals with little access to decent and comfortable lives.

In the exhibition "The Road to Hell is Paved…," artists explore the complex issues resulting from cultural/political hegemony. Colonialist and utopic ideals affecting these issues are examined in disparate forms and media. Each artist interrogates the systems, ideologies and conventions in representation (art) in an effort to expose the impact and effect of imperialist expansion on societies, cultures, and most importantly individuals affected by displacement.
